PAC
Performing Arts Camp…
I know many of you have ether heard of it, been on it, or had contact with it in someway!! What is it about PAC, that I love so much?? It's the atmosphere. I'm right now, producing this years DVD, which gives me the pleasure of going through the performance video footage, and recordings, and compiling it in to DVD format. All I can say, is I'm empressed! It's magnificent stuff!!
For the second year in a row, I've left PAC on emotional highs, and also with that feeling of, I don't want to go through that again next year. Being a leader is stressful at the best of times, putting on a performance that runs smoothly is difficult, and having that camp atmosphere, and more talent than you can point forks at, all makes PAC what it is. I think it's understanable, that right after camp, when still on emotional highs (and lows for leaving camp), having just put on a performance, and done cleanup, etc etc, you don't really want to go through it all again. But after a few weeks, and your "back in the real world", you review the camp. You see all the successes, and if your lucky, and have the DVD, or even luckier and your me, and get to make the DVD, you review the performance, and see that in the end, it's all worth it.
Listening to just the soundtrack for the DVD, I wonder why so many talented musicians go through life, and may never perform. We are trying to do something about it at Church, having informal music nights for anyone to have a try and being in the worship team. But for young teenagers, why do some get picked up by recording studios, and go on to make lots of money, and most of them can't really sing, or write their own music??? Yet for the majority of teenagers, their lucky to be heard outside of their home!! I'm not sure if I've written it down here before, but I'll write it anyway. My vision for the Music team at Church, is to start writing their own songs, and RECORDING them and releasing an Album. Turns out, I'm not the only one with that vision, and stuff is heading the right way!! Now I wonder what I can do for these singers from Camp, who probably just need that little bit of support from other musicians, and friends, and of course, a company with the equipment and money, and they could be producing albums!!!
I think it's time to extend my vision. I see a company, of young musicians, especially those with good ears for picking out talent. They need to go around, listening for amaturers that have talent, matching voices, and styles, and seeing what they can produce. Throw some money at it, have some sort of "free but we pick you" program, that gives them a few practice sessions, see what you can mix up, and give them a session in the recording studio!! If it's good, sample it out, and see what the response is, if it's good, sign them up!!
I understand that this all costs money, but I would prefer to throw money at something like this, so we have talent in our next generation of Albums, rather than some of the absolute lack of talent you can buy in music stores all around the world right now!!
Anyway, I'm off to keep working on this amazing DVD, I have another update coming very soon, as my life is about to take a dramatic turn, or to be more correct, a corrective turn towards my goals.
And maybe you should be on the lookout at stores for some new CD's soon….
p.s. And at work the other night, Christian Worship music was piping out of the PA system!! I was so impressed!
